This is a question that is commonly asked in modern-day. It may due to not realizing the essence of Buddhism or just trying to understand it logically. But for a practitioner, Buddhism is a way of living. It teaches us to live mindfully without harming anyone in any way. Therefore, mindfulness practice is an essential aspect of Buddhism. To have a peaceful living, one must investigate oneself and make a genuine effort to abandon unwholesome words, deeds, thoughts, and habits and to cultivate wholesome.
