Spiritual Retreat is a day or days of seclusion from worldly life and is focusing on spiritual development and one’s wellbeing. A lay devotee gets an opportunity to experience a monastic life which is free from any burden and solely dedicate in solitude and contemplation for a peaceful and liberated mind. During the time of the Buddha, he advised practitioners to go to a wood, foot of a tree or an empty hut for the spiritual striving.
Buddhism is the religion of mind. According to Buddha’s teachings, mental actions really matters. All the mental fabrications lead to verbal and physical actions. Therefore, without purifying the mind, avoiding unwholesome actions are impossible. Real peace and happiness depends on mind. Spiritual retreat is designed to balance the mind and to experience inner peace and happiness.
At our temple, we have a day of Spiritual Retreat observing precepts and practicing hours of various meditation techniques and listening and discussing Dhamma to develop experiential knowledge on the reality of life.
