Welcome

Minnesota Buddhist Vihara is a Theravada Buddhist temple located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was founded in 2004 by Venerable Witiyala Seewalie Nayaka Thera to fulfill the need for a spiritual place in the state of Minnesota.

Initially, the Vihara offered its services at Thien An Buddhist Temple, sharing their space for more than two years. With their generous support, the community was able to develop and grow steadily. In 2006, the current premises were acquired, and the temple officially opened on June 24, 2006.

All are welcome to come and see “ehipassiko”, as the Buddha encouraged all seekers of Dhamma.

Minnesota Buddhist Vihara is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the state of Minnesota. All monetary donations are tax deductible.

About Our Temple and Community

Our temple, established in the heart of Minneapolis, serves as a sanctuary for individuals seeking peace and spiritual growth. We are dedicated to sharing the teachings of the Buddha and fostering a supportive community for all practitioners, regardless of their experience level.

The temple has a rich history, deeply rooted in the local community. Over 20 years, we have hosted numerous events, workshops, and ceremonies that promote mindfulness and compassion, helping individuals connect with their inner selves and each other.

Our resident monks play a vital role in guiding our community. They offer teachings, lead meditation sessions, and provide support to those on their spiritual journeys. Their wisdom and compassion are integral to our temple’s mission.

We invite everyone to join us in our activities, whether you are new to Buddhism or a seasoned practitioner. Together, we can cultivate a peaceful environment that nurtures spiritual growth and community service.
