Does chanting helps in this pandemic?
During the time of the Buddha, similar pandemic took place in the city of Vesali. It was being plagued by disease, non-human beings and famine. Out of desparation, people invited the Buddha to come and bless the city. At that time, he instructed Venerable Ananda to go with monastics to chant the Jewel Discourse called “Ratana Sutta” which is one of the daily discourses monastic chant. After spreading blessed water and recitation of this discourse, it is believed that the pandemic disappeared.
With this noble intention, monks have been chanting for the last 9 months daily.
May this daily chanting bring peace and joy in everyone’s life. May everyone be well and happy. May no harm come to you. May no difficulties come to you.
Hearing a single verse, which leads to calm and peaceful, is better than hearing thousand verses that are meaningless and not related with the realization of Nibbana.
